OUR RESEARCH AFFILIATIONS

The Board and our research and administration teams acknowledge the valued support of our partner organisations.

For the last 14 years we have worked collaboratively with many organisations including The Heart Research Institute, the ANZAC Institute, the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute, Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe), The George Institute and The Centenary Institute. The work of these institutions, members of the Sydney Research Council, includes the study of obesity, diabetes, cancer, mental health and the neurosciences, infectious diseases and cardiovascular disease. The Baird Institute’s work compliments these approaches and concentrates upon laboratory and clinical research, surgical education and training, and outcomes of care for patient survival and quality of life.

The Baird Institute continues to liaise with The University of Sydney and the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Department at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH), and is now working with the newly created Institute of Academic Surgery at RPAH. These affiliations make our work more global and help to meet the changing needs and focus of healthcare for patients with heart, lung and vascular conditions. To disseminate the work of The Baird Institute, over the last four years, we have held public research events to support the development and training of students and researchers. A stand-out event at conferences has been the use of a wet-lab, where current biological research and surgical techniques can be demonstrated and discussed.
