Musicus Medicus
We are pleased to announce that in 2020 we will be working with Musicus Medicus (Latin for Musician and Physician) to promote a performance which will be held at The Concourse in Chatswood in September 2020. Much of the proceeds from this event will go to The Baird Institute. We would love all of our supporters to join us.
Musicus Medicus proudly presents “Harp to Heart” on Saturday 26th September 2020 at 5:00pm in the Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood.
Now in its seventeenth year, the NSW Doctors Orchestra comprises about 80 medical students and doctors from metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW, who are also talented musicians. This annual fundraising concert promises to be an entertaining afternoon of inspiring music from French, Russian and Australian composers. It will feature guest conductor Joanna Drimatis, and star soloist Alice Giles playing the beautiful Boieldieu Harp Concerto in C major, Opus 77.
Tickets to "Harp to Heart" are now on sale!

The program includes the wonderfully passionate Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Opus 74 Pathétique, and a lively short work “Roar” by Australian composer Maria Grenfell. All concert proceeds benefit charities in the arts and health. This includes funding the annual NSW Drs Orchestra Sydney Eisteddfod Instrumental Scholarship awarded to an instrumentalist (16-25 years) in strings, woodwind or brass. Sydney Eisteddfod is an independent, community-based, not-for-profit organisation and a charity which for well over 80 years has been nurturing performing arts and contributing significantly to the evolving culture in Australia.
The medical charity supported this year is The Baird Institute, established in 2001 in honour of Professor Douglas Baird, to continue his life saving work and research, driving medical breakthroughs in heart and lung surgery. Based in Sydney, it is Australia’s only dedicated cardiothoracic surgical training and research institute, committed to directly impact the quality of life for patients after surgery and save lives that may otherwise have been lost.
