Paul Bannon named leading researcher in Heart & Thoracic Surgery, Research 2026 (The Australian)

The Australian newspaper’s 2026 Research Magazine, which identifies Australia’s top 250 researchers, has named Professor Paul Bannon, Chair of The Baird Institute, the leading Australian researcher in the field of Heart and Thoracic Surgery. To determine the Top 250 research leaders, the magazine assigns each researcher an impact score based on research output across 250 fields. The score reflects quality (papers published in the top journals), impact (citations over the past five years), and volume (sustained output meeting quality and impact standards). All data is drawn from publicly available Google Scholar records. Professor Bannon was also named the top research leader in Cardiology in 2021 in The Australian’s Research Magazine.
