As a young man, Rajprabahar Alagendran chose to build a new life in Australia. Now 62, he is a husband and a father and deeply grateful for the community that became his home.
But for eight long years, a worsening heart condition threatened to take it all away. Diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and a narrowed aortic valve, Raj’s world began to shrink. The man who loved to explore could barely walk a few steps without losing his breath. A life-saving valve replacement in April 2024, performed by Professor Martin Misfeld, gave him his future back.
When asked to donate his heart tissue, Raj saw a profound opportunity to give back to the country that had given him so much. It was his way of paying it forward.
Today, with his health restored, Raj carries a powerful sense of purpose.
